The first day of summer brought along with it the most amazing moon. As the day ended, my boyfriend Frankie and I kissed his three children goodnight and sent them inside with their grandmother. We headed for the back porch swing. We were finally relaxing; me taking time to sip a cup of tea, him picking up his old acoustic guitar. After a couple of minutes I realized he was playing “Wild Horses” by the Rolling Stones. It is one of my favorite songs, and he had learned it earlier in the day so he could sing it to me once we had time alone. After a while, Frankie suggested we take the canoe out for a midnight paddle under the moon light.
The air was warm, the sky bright with moonlight, as we floated slowly down the river. Fireflies were blinking all around us, and we could smell honeysuckles in the air. We paddled together, and Frankie sang love songs to me along the way.
I’m lucky to have a musician for a boyfriend. Every day he gives me the gift of song. That night was a good reminder of why I’m in love with him. Frankie took my hand to help me out of the canoe. He held me close and kissed me on the forehead. We stood there holding hands looking up at the sky for a long while before going inside. It was a magical night.
